Tara Flanagan is an up and coming artist from Poole, Dorset in the South West of England. She exuberates a dark electronic pop sound, with authentic Singer-Songwriter lyrics, fused with thriving pop beats and powerful emotive vocals.
She has been honing in her craft, singing and performing for over 12 years, song writing since the age of 13, initially embarking on an acoustic Singer-Songwriter genre whilst accompanying herself on guitar and piano. This passion rapidly developed into her regularly participating in shows, musical events and singing competitions and during the process, developed her own punchy pop identity.
Tara has been a Grand Finalist in various singing competitions such as Star Sensations, Talent call and the worldwide Star Now Music Immersive competition. Back in January 2015, she beat thousands of applicants and reached the Grand Final of the National singing competition, Open Mic UK, performing her new material at the NEC Birmingham and was awarded the Future Music Management Showcase award for her strong vocal, performance and songwriting skills. Further accolades include the 90.1 Hope FM Time to Shine Rising Star 2015 award.
Tara’s performance experience began with dancing. She had a realisation of her love of performing and being on stage at the age of 5 when she studied ballet, tap and modern dance at the Hollywood Academy of Dance, getting involved in various ballet productions such as Pocahontas, Alice in Wonderland, Narnia – The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Tales of a Winter’s Night, and Coppelia with the European Ballet Company to name a few.
After this, she attended twice weekly workshops in singing, dancing and acting at the Stagewise School for the Performing Arts and had been involved in different stage productions, playing the lead role of the musical Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz; the role of Belle in a school musical Beauty and the Beast; Helena in Shakepeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and in July 2015, she played the role of Scaramouche in the St Edward’s musical We Will Rock You.
Although Tara enjoys musical theatre and acting, her real passion is in singing and song writing and her main drive and ambition is to become successful as a solo artist.
Sometime in June 2014, River Studios headed by the renowned music producer and vocal coach, Gareth Henderson, invited Tara to join their Artist Development Programme. Working with Gareth, Tara recorded Volumes and her debut single Run Run Run. She then wrote and recorded three more tracks for her EP; Tough Luck, I Know and Cards on the Table with the equally talented music producer Stuart Mannell. Working with the super talented photographer/videographer Glen Jevon, they shot her first music video which became video of the week in the PhotoGroupie music site.
With an ambitious approach, on Sunday 28th June she independently organized an official launch night of her debut single RUN RUN RUN which took place as a sold out gig at Mr Kyps in Poole, Dorset, followed by its release on 29th June 2015.
Tara embarked on an exciting experience when she was asked to perform at London Fashion Week in September 2016, performing a ballad version of one of Tara’s inspiration’s, Prince’s hit song ‘When Doves Cry.’
Recently recognised for her raw and real lyrics, Tara was invited into the BBC Introducing Live Lounge to perform an intimate set.
RUN RUN RUN is available to download on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and Google Play.
