Tara Flanagan is an up and coming artist from Poole, Dorset in the South West of England. She exuberates a punchy pop sound, with passionate emotive vocals and lyrics which make for a captivating and energetic performance.
She has been singing and performing for over 12 years and has been song writing since the age of 13, initially embarking on an acoustic Singer-Songwriter genre whilst accompanying herself on guitar and piano. This passion rapidly developed into her regularly participating in shows, musical events and singing competitions and during the process, developed her own punchy pop identity.
Tara has been a Grand Finalist in various singing competitions such as Star Sensations, Talent call and the worldwide Star Now Music Immersive competition. She beat thousands of applicants and reached the Grand Final of the National singing competition, Open Mic UK, at the NEC Birmingham and was awarded the Future Music Management Showcase award for her strong vocal, performance and songwriting skills. Further accolades include the 90.1 Hope FM Time to Shine Rising Star award. Tara embarked on an exciting experience when she was asked to perform at London Fashion Week, performing a ballad version of one of Tara’s inspiration’s, Prince’s hit song ‘When Doves Cry.’
BBC Introducing Live Lounge invited Tara to perform an intimate set at BBC Radio Solent. See video here. Tara also had her debut TV appearance in March 2016 where her live performance at Canvas, Bournemouth with BriTRox was aired on BriTRox TV.
Most recently Tara has supported the Singer Rebecca Ferguson and group Shalamar at The Concorde in Southampton
Tara’s performance experience began with dancing. She had a realisation of her love of performing and being on stage at the age of 5 when she studied ballet, tap and modern dance at the Hollywood Academy of Dance, getting involved in various ballet productions such as Pocahontas, Alice in Wonderland, Narnia – The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Tales of a Winter’s Night, and Coppelia with the European Ballet Company to name a few.
Tara attended twice weekly workshops in singing, dancing and acting at the Stagewise School for the Performing Arts and had been involved in different stage productions, playing the lead role of the musical Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz; the role of Belle in a school musical Beauty and the Beast; Helena in Shakepeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and she played the role of Scaramouche in the St Edward’s musical We Will Rock You. This introduction to the world of performance at such an early age is what propelled Tara into her music career.
Later in her teenage years is where Tara took control of her music career seriously and created her first EP at River Studios headed by the renowned music producer and vocal coach, Gareth Henderson. Working with Gareth Henderson and Stuart Mannell, she recorded her debut single Run Run Run along with her debut EP ‘THE GAME’. Working with the talented photographer/videographer Glen Jevon, they shot her first music video which became video of the week in the PhotoGroupie music site.
Tara organised an official launch night of her debut single RUN RUN RUN which took place as a sold out gig at Mr Kyps in Poole, Dorset.
Over the past 2 years Tara has been focusing on songwriting and working on her new sound. Tara has now released her long awaited single Let Your Guard Down, the first instalment of her new music that she has been working on.
